WHAT ARE THE GOALS OF BETTER RADIO?

  • Invigorate the community by offering residents timely, relevant material about the people who make this region so special

  • Highlight the musicians, farmers, artists, doers, movers, shakers, and old-timers who have contributed so much to the community

  • Provide students hands-on experience focusing on local stories, musicians, individuals, and businesses while honing broadcast journalism and New Media skills—and reinvigorating their interests in their educations

  • Train individuals in New Media, thereby helping them keep up with the ever-changing technological landscape and make them more attractive to future employers and schools

  • Offer an alternative educational environment that is hands-on and creative

  • Initiate a residency and internship program that allows individuals access to a premier New Media education at no monetary cost to them

WHAT IS THE IMPACT OF BETTER RADIO?

  • To call attention to this unique and diverse community

  • To foster a pilot radio station program that will flourish in years to come and provide the community with entertainment and thought-provoking commentary

  • To create podcasts streamed over the Internet, thereby reaching an even larger audience

  • To initiate a residency program inviting New Media specialists, writers, and musicians to our unique campus.

  • To increase students' confidence in their abilities and show them ways to apply their natural creativity to technical work

HOW IS BETTER RADIO FUNDED?

betterArts is funded through grants, private donations, and underwriters.

  • Funding from Best Buy was designated for New Media training for teenagers in the North Country. Funds from this grant are used to purchase recording equipment and train young adults in a variety of disciplines. Better Radio programming educates students on principles of recording, uploading, syncing, mixing, digitally editing, creating podcasts, and producing content in a way that draws attention to our community. Content created by these students will be transmitted via the web and FM radio.

  • Underwriters have provided integral monthly support that “keeps the lights on.”

  • Myriad private donations have allowed us to maintain proper licensing, expand our music library, and maintain our equipment.

All donations are 100% tax-deductible. To support this project, click here or email info@betterarts.org. In addition to monetary donations, the station is currently in need of:

  • Insulation

  • Record shelving

  • Soundproofing
